Lot 141: An Antique Brass and Cast Iron Scholar's Monocular Microscope, Late 19th Century
An unsigned antique continental style monocular microscope, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The instrument is constructed with a lacquered brass body and a telescoping draw-tube for coarse focusing, mounted on a pivoting arm to allow for adjustable viewing angles. The assembly is supported by a heavy, black-enamelled cast iron horseshoe-style base. It features a fixed square stage equipped with two brass slide clips and a sub-stage, double-sided plane and concave mirror on a swivelling gimbal. The lot includes one detached circular brass sub-stage component, likely a diaphragm. No maker’s name, hallmarks, or serial numbers are engraved on the instrument. No carrying case or additional lenses are present.
