Lot 31: A Vintage Taxco Sterling Silver Yalalag Style Pendant Cross by SCD 14.9g gross

A large vintage sterling silver pendant cross produced in Taxco, Mexico, designed in the traditional Yalalag style. The central section is set with a large oval black cabochon, likely onyx or obsidian, held within a raised bezel and bordered by intricate silver wirework and floral motifs. The cross body is embellished with applied floral rosettes and beaded decoration. It features five articulated, dangling smaller crosses: two suspended from each lateral arm and one from the base. Each smaller cross displays a central floral element and curved arms. The piece is suspended from a large, decorative circular bail with matching floral ornamentation. The reverse of the horizontal crossbar is stamped with a heart-shaped eagle assay mark containing the numeral 3, and the literal transcriptions TAXCO, MEXICO, 925, and the maker mark SCD.
