Lot 333: A Philip Harris Ltd Oak and Glass Cased Analytical Balance Scale

A laboratory analytical beam balance scale by Philip Harris Ltd., Birmingham. This one-piece unit is housed within a rectangular oak case featuring inset glass panels to the top and all four sides. The case incorporates original glass and a vertical sliding front door operated by a black composite handle. The interior balance mechanism consists of a black enamel finished central column supporting a graduated horizontal beam with two suspended brass pans. A vertical needle pointer is positioned before a graduated white scale at the base. The wooden base of the balance is fitted with three knurled brass levelling feet and a central beam release knob to the front. The case bears an inlaid circular maker’s plaque to the top rail, and the pointer scale is similarly marked Philip Harris Ltd. Birmingham.
