Lot 383: A Hand-Carved Wooden Sculpture of Michelangelo's Moses 28cm tall

A hand-carved wooden sculpture of Moses, modelled after the original work by Michelangelo. The figure is depicted in a seated position, looking towards the left, with a long flowing beard and heavy drapery. He holds the Tablets of Stone under his right arm and features two horns on his head, a traditional iconographic mistranslation of rays of light. The sculpture is executed in a dark-stained wood with a polished finish. It is mounted on an integral stepped rectangular plinth base, which is decorated with a carved gadrooned or foliate motif to the bottom edge. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are present.
