Lot 639: A Victorian brass and wire mesh nursery fender and a trio of fire tools
A late 19th or early 20th-century nursery fender constructed with a rounded brass top rail set with four turned brass finials. The body features an iron diamond-pattern wire mesh supported by vertical bars, all fixed into a solid metal base plate. Accompanying the fender is a trio of fire tools comprising a shovel, a poker, and a pair of tongs. Two of the tools are fitted with brass bird’s claw and ball finials, while the third has a turned brass knob handle. The shovel features an embossed brass blade decorated with a foliate and scrollwork pattern. The shafts of the tools are made of iron or steel. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or labels are visible on any of the items.
