Buyer's Premium:

A collection of approximately 60 to 80 vintage postcards, predominantly featuring British military and aviation subjects from the early 20th century. The collection is presented in a modern black ring-bound album with clear plastic sleeves. A significant group within the collection is the Fragments from France series, featuring the work of Bruce Bairnsfather, with many cards bearing his printed signature and the text Bystander copyright. These cards illustrate trench life through humorous scenes such as Coiffure in the Trenches, The Innocent Abroad, and Well, if you knows of a better ‘ole, go to it. Aviation subjects include a real photo postcard of the Supermarine Spitfire prototype K 5054, a card titled FOUR CELEBRATED AIR HEROES featuring Lieut. F. Sowrey D.S.O., Lieut. W. L. Robinson, V.C., Capt. F. R. Stammer, and Lieut. W. J. Tempest, and scenes of Zeppelin raids over London. Military real photo postcards depict groups of soldiers, equipment including a heavy howitzer, and locations such as the Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport. Several cards show postal history interest with contemporary handwritten messages, stamps, and postmarks including NELSON 27 AU 04 and KOLBERG 16.3.16. Social history cards with sentimental themes such as Love’s Old Sweet Song and various birthday greetings are also included.
