Lot 759: A 1942 Herman Smith Ltd Military Transit Chest and an Assortment of Pharmaceutical Laboratory Equipment

An assortment of pharmaceutical and laboratory equipment housed within a British military issue black painted metal transit chest. The rectangular chest features stencilled white lettering reading TELEGRAPH EQUIPMENT UNIT B and is impressed with a circular mark reading HERMAN SMITH LTD around the upper perimeter, surrounding the date 1942 and a broad arrow pheon symbol. Inside the chest is a collection of cream coloured stoneware mortars of graduated sizes, each with a pouring spout, and four pestles with stoneware heads and turned wooden handles. One stoneware pestle head is marked with the suffix ENGLAND. The set includes a heavy cast brass mortar with a flared rim and a square side handle, together with a matching bulbous brass pestle. Also present is a cast iron bench style cork press featuring three cylindrical indentations and a hinged lever handle.
