An oil on board maritime painting by Duncan Fraser McLea (1841-1916) titled Running for the Tyne – Stormy Weather. The composition features a sailing vessel in a tempestuous sea, with the water rendered in thick, white-capped impasto. A smaller ship is visible on the horizon to the right against a dark, cloudy sky. The painting is signed D.F. McLea in the lower right corner (Photo 2). A white adhesive label is attached to the reverse reading Duncan Fraser McLea: Running for the Tyne – Stormy Weather, oil on board, signed, also signed, inscribed and dated 1907 verso, 18cm x 25cm, framed (Photo 5). A white string-tied circular tag is attached to the frame (Photo 5). The painting is set within a modern stepped gilt frame.
