John Falconar Slater (1857-1937) oil on canvas landscape, likely laid on board. The scene depicts a sunset viewed through a screen of silhouetted trees with a cottage in the distance, rendered with thick impasto and textured brushwork. The painting is signed in the lower right corner J F Slater, with the initials in black paint and the surname in a reddish-brown pigment. It is presented in an ornate gilt composition frame with scrolling foliate and shell mouldings. The reverse is sealed with brown backing paper and bears a yellow adhesive label printed with the number 37337.
