A landscape watercolor painting on paper by Lewis W. Thomson, depicting a coastal scene with four traditional fishing cobles resting on a slipway or beach. The central boat is finished in dark red with a white hull and bears the registration BH 116 in white lettering on the bow. To its right is a green-hulled boat with the registration BH 95, and a blue-hulled boat is positioned further back to the left. The registrations BH indicate the port of Blyth, Northumberland. A small blue rowboat is visible in the lower right foreground. The background features a village landscape with a prominent church spire and a series of white-walled buildings along a sandy coastline under a pale blue sky. The artist has employed a technique combining fine pen line work for structural detail with broad watercolor washes. The work is signed in the lower left corner in black ink Lewis W. Thomson ’89. The painting is presented behind glass within a cream-coloured card mount and a decorative gold-toned frame with an ornate repeating foliate border.
