Lot 249: A Large Meteorite copper and brass ships port lantern 57cm tall

A large antique nautical starboard navigation lantern of copper construction with brass fittings. The body features a conical top section leading to a cylindrical chimney with a hinged lid and an integrated loop handle. The front section is fitted with a clear glass fresnel lens. To the front, an applied brass ribbon-shaped plaque is embossed STARBOARD, above a rectangular brass plaque embossed METEORITE over P 91566, followed by PATENT No 546575 AND OTHERS PENDING. The interior features a tiered ventilation chimney. The reverse of the lantern is fitted with a vertical brass mounting bracket and a folding wire handle is attached to the side. No internal lamp or burner assembly is present.
