Lot 252: An Assortment of West European Military and Civil Commemorative Medals and Badges
An assortment of commemorative medals, badges, and ribbon bars dating from the mid-1970s, primarily relating to international military and civilian walking events in West Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
The group includes a medal with a bronze-finish top bar reading 1. INT. WANDERTAG / 4 CMBG / 1977 above suspended metal plaques depicting the flags of Canada and West Germany. The circular medal features a raised map of Canada and is marked WANDERFREUNDE.
Two medals relate to the Rheindahlen Allied Marches, suspended from green ribbons with white, red, and blue stripes. One has a bar marked 1975 and a medal marked IV. RHEINDAHLEN ALLIED MARCHES. The second has a bar marked 1974 and a medal marked RHEINDAHLEN ALLIED MARCHES. Both feature a central shield with crossed swords.
A gold-tone Maltese cross is suspended from a green and yellow striped ribbon, with the letters K, N, B, L, and O on the arms and a central lion crest.
A commemorative medal for the Graf Zeppelin is suspended from a white ribbon with blue dashed borders and a bar reading 1974 / WANDERFREUNDE / HELLERTAL. The medal shows a globe with a gold-tone zeppelin marked GRAF ZEPPELIN and text reading PIONIERE DER LUFTFAHRT / GRAF ZEPPELIN 1838-1917.
A pewter-finish badge for the Marsch-Club Eupen features a top banner reading 1977 / MARSCH-CLUB EUPEN and a central shield with the letters MCE surrounded by relief depictions of hiking equipment.
The collection further includes a white circular medal with two red fish and a bar reading 1974; a medal depicting a knight on horseback with a crossed cannon device on the ribbon; and a bronze-finish medal for the AIRBORNE WANDELTOCHTEN showing a rider on Pegasus, suspended from a maroon ribbon. Two small ribbon bars are also present.
