Lot 538: Three Dinky Toys Pre-War Die-Cast Model Aeroplanes with Original Technical Boxes
A trio of vintage die-cast metal model aeroplanes manufactured in England by Meccano Ltd under the Dinky Toys brand. Each model is presented with its original blue card box featuring detailed technical specifications and diagrams printed on the underside of the lids.
The first model is an Empire Flying Boat (No. 60r), finished in silver paint with black registration G-ADHM applied to the wings and fuselage. The underside of the left wing is impressed DINKY TOYS EMPIRE FLYING BOAT, while the right wing is impressed MADE IN ENGLAND BY MECCANO LTD. It is accompanied by a paper instruction sheet titled GLIDING A NEW GAME by Meccano Limited.
The second model is a Boeing Flying Fortress (No. 62g), finished in silver with U.S. Army Air Corps star-in-circle decals on the wings and red-and-white striped markings to the rudder. The underside of the left wing is impressed DINKY TOYS BOEING FLYING FORTRESS and the right wing MADE IN ENGLAND BY MECCANO LTD. It features four red three-bladed propellers.
The third model is an Imperial Airways Frobisher Class Liner (No. 62w), finished in silver with black registration G-AFDI on the wings and the name FALCON applied to the nose. The underside of the right wing is impressed DINKY TOYS FROBISHER CLASS AIR LINER and the left wing MADE IN ENGLAND BY MECCANO LTD. The box base contains a small adhesive label printed FALCON.
