Lot 561: A Set of Nine Hand-Painted Wooden Skittles and Ball

A set of nine vintage turned wood skittles and one small wooden ball. Each skittle is hand-painted as a human figure with simple facial features and colourful, banded decoration in red, orange, yellow, green, and blue. The figures are divided into three distinct styles based on their headwear: three wear red conical pixie-style hats with blue spots, three wear black cylindrical top hats, and three wear tall black busby-style hats. The accompanying wooden ball retains remnants of yellow pigment. Each skittle features a small circular indentation at the top, consistent with the lathe-turning process. There are no maker’s marks, labels, or inscriptions visible on any of the items in the set.
