Lot 183: A Pair of Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Millefleurs Baluster Vases 21cm tall
A pair of Chinese cloisonné enamel vases of baluster form, featuring a dense millefleurs (thousand flowers) or wan hua decoration. The bodies and waisted necks are entirely covered with closely packed floral blooms including chrysanthemums and peonies in a palette of dark red, brown, and green enamels. The decorative elements are defined by intricate brass wire work. Each vase is finished with a flared gilded metal mouth and rim, with a matching gilded foot rim. The interior of the necks shows a dark, patinated metal surface. The undersides of the vases are finished with a mottled turquoise blue counter-enamel. There are no maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions visible on the body or the base of either piece.
