Lot 231: A Collection of Four Middle Eastern Dallah Coffee Pots

A collection of four Middle Eastern coffee pots, or dallahs, comprising three graduated copper alloy pots and one mixed-metal decorated pot. The graduated trio features a dark aged patina to the copper-toned bodies, which are designed with waisted necks, bulbous bases, and long sweeping spouts. Each is fitted with a hinged lid topped by a tiered, pointed finial and a simple curved handle. A circular impressed mark is located on the body of two of the copper pots; the characters within these marks are worn and not legible as names or specific makers. The fourth pot is of larger proportions and features a mixed-metal construction with white metal foliate scrollwork and calligraphic bands over a brass-toned ground. This decorated dallah is designed with a serrated crest to the spout and a handle terminating in a stylized bird-head thumb-rest. The central calligraphic band includes the word ‘Allah’ (الله) and characters appearing to form the word ‘Hafiz’ (حفظ), though the full inscription is not legible across the curvature.
