Lot 705: Beswick Parastone Silhouette d'art Ceramic Vase LS Lowry Going to Work 1959

A Beswick and Parastone Silhouette d’art glazed earthenware ceramic vase featuring the artwork of British artist LS Lowry (1887-1976). The vase is of an oval, sleeve form with a distinctive irregular rim that follows the silhouette of the depicted architecture and industrial skyline. The exterior is decorated with a wraparound transfer print of the 1959 watercolour Going to Work, showing a dense crowd of industrial workers in Lowry’s signature style against a backdrop of terraced housing and factory chimneys. The interior is finished in a vibrant solid red glaze.

The base of the vase features a printed blue rectangular mark with the words Silhouette d art, containing the name Beswick in cursive script and parastone below. Above the rectangle are the printed name LS LOWRY and dates (1887-1976). The vase is accompanied by the original biographical fold-out brochure titled Silhouette d’art which includes a photograph of the artist and information regarding the specific 1959 painting Going to Work.
