Lot 725: Expressionist Mixed Media Painting Inscribed Gdanit 1944 40x49cm

A mid-20th-century expressionist mixed media painting, executed in gouache and ink on a paper support. The composition depicts a dark urban street scene dominated by a central red clock tower or church steeple, flanked by heavily abstracted building silhouettes. The work utilizes energetic, gestural brushwork with thick impasto highlights in white and light blue to create a turbulent sky. The lower margin of the paper bears a handwritten inscription in black ink reading GDANIT 1944 followed by a cursive signature that is not clearly legible. The work is presented in a dark-stained wood-grain frame with a gilded inner slip and a black mount, protected behind glazing. The reverse of the frame is not visible.
