Lot 101: Robert Heindel, Forgetful of Virtue, Limited Edition Signed Serigraph 114x102cm
A limited edition serigraph on heavy textured art paper titled Forgetful of Virtue by Robert Heindel (1938–2005). The composition depicts two ballet dancers in an expressive embrace, executed in a palette of ochre, earth browns, and greys with a vertical drip effect along the lower margin. The work incorporates a handwritten passage of text from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana reading: I travel the wide road in my youthful fashion, embroiled in vice, forgetful of virtue; I am more interested in my sensuality than in my health; dead in my soul, I take care of my skin. The print is hand-signed R Heindel in pencil to the lower right and numbered 215/250 in pencil to the lower left. It is housed in a professional cream and deep red double mount within a dark wood frame featuring a gold-tone inner fillet. The reverse bears a biographical label for the artist and a framer’s label for Fast Frame, Newcastle upon Tyne. The lot includes an original promotional brochure detailing the artist’s career and his collaboration with the San Francisco Ballet on the production The Dance House.
