Lot 134: A Pair of Fluted Emerald Green Glass Apothecary Poison Bottles 25cm tall

A pair of emerald green glass apothecary shop rounds of cylindrical form. The bodies and shoulders feature vertical fluting, a design historically used for poison bottles to enable identification by touch in low light conditions. Each bottle is fitted with a matching green glass spherical stopper. They are decorated with rectangular reverse-painted underglass labels on a mottled red ground with gold-toned borders. The first bottle is inscribed TINCT: DIGITALIS. (POISON) and the second is inscribed TINCT: HYOSCYAM: (POISON).
