Lot 143: Winifred McGregor, Peruvian Woman and Child, oil on board

A figurative oil painting on board by Winifred McGregor, depicting a Peruvian woman and child. The composition shows the woman in profile wearing a neutral grey hat, carrying a child wrapped in a red textile on her back. The work is executed with heavy impasto and thick, textured brushwork, particularly visible in the rendering of the faces and headwear. A yellowed paper label is adhered to the upper left corner of the verso, printed with EAST LINTON ART COMPETITION – 1977 and handwritten with the entry number 329, the artist name Winifred McGregor, an address in Baberton Mains Drive, Edinburgh, and the title Peruvian Woman & Child. The painting is presented in a black wooden frame with a thin gilt inner slip and a brown paper backing.
