Lot 142: Roal English oil on canvas seascape painting

Roal English oil on stretched canvas painting depicting a turbulent coastal scene. The composition features a large breaking wave in the foreground, rendered with heavy impasto and palette knife textures in white and teal tones to simulate sea foam. The sky is depicted in blended shades of grey and blue with a central light area, and features four seagulls in flight, including one diving toward the water in the centre-right foreground. A cursive script signature in white paint to the lower left corner reads Roal English. The work is set within a wide, ornate gilt-effect frame with scrolling foliate and shell mouldings to the corners and borders. A small yellow adhesive sticker to the lower right corner of the frame face is printed with the number 2119.
