Lot 268: Crown Devon Fieldings John Peel musical earthenware bowl

A Crown Devon Fieldings glazed earthenware musical bowl in the John Peel pattern. The footed bowl is decorated with relief-moulded scenes including a portrait of the huntsman John Peel, hunters on horseback, and hounds. Two handles are modelled as climbing foxes peering into the bowl. The rim is finished with an oak leaf and acorn border. The base of the bowl is inscribed with the lyrics of the hunting song D’ye ken John Peel alongside the dates 1776 and 1854. The underside contains a recessed wooden base housing a mechanical musical movement, featuring a brass-coloured winding key and a metal start/stop lever. Stamped to the base with the maker’s mark Crown Devon Fieldings Made in England.
