Lot 300: A large 19th-century Swiss rosewood and marquetry twelve-tune cylinder music box 65x18x22
This large cylinder music box is housed in a rectangular rosewood veneered case featuring boxwood stringing and ebonised mouldings. The hinged lid is decorated with a central marquetry panel depicting a musical trophy with a lyre, pipes, and floral sprays. The case is raised on ebonised bracket feet. The interior contains a brass mechanism mounted on a cast-metal bedplate with a single steel comb. A secondary hinged glass dust cover protects the movement. The mechanism includes a winding lever to the left side and a brass tune indicator numbered 1 to 12. Several small stamped characters are present on the brass components but are not clearly legible. The original paper tune sheet normally found on the underside of the lid is missing.
