Lot 355: A Clarice Cliff Newport Pottery Water Lily pattern preserve pot and lid

An English hand-painted earthenware preserve pot featuring a globular, spiral-ribbed body. The exterior is decorated with embossed floral motifs in the form of water lily buds and green leaves against a textured ground with a pale blue wash at the upper and lower sections. The matching lid includes a spoon notch and is topped with a relief flower bud finial. The base of the piece bears a green printed backstamp consisting of the script characters ‘Clarice Cliff’ with a long underline, above the printed words ‘NEWPORT’, ‘POTTERY Co’, and ‘ENGLAND’.
