Lot 377: A mid-20th-century chrome-plated jet aircraft souvenir London Airport salt and pepper cruet set
A souvenir salt and pepper cruet set on a stand, designed with a mid-century jet age aesthetic. The stand is constructed from chrome-plated metal in the form of a twin-engine jet aeroplane supported by a three-point wire base. The two matching cylindrical shakers are designed to be housed within recesses in the wings that simulate engine nacelles. Each shaker features a chrome-plated lattice sleeve surrounding a dark blue glass liner, finished with a domed perforated cap. Both shakers are adorned with a circular enamelled medallion depicting the original terminal building and control tower at London Airport, now Heathrow, with a four-engine aircraft in flight above. A red banner at the base of the medallion reads LONDON AIRPORT. The tail of the aircraft stand is stamped in relief with the characters REG. NO. 876205.
