Lot 494: A collection of antique North East England glass and stoneware beverage bottles
A collection of twelve antique beverage bottles, comprising eleven aqua glass examples and one two-tone glazed stoneware bottle. The lot features a cream and brown glazed stoneware bottle with a black transfer-printed label for C.A.M.W.A.L. Ginger Beer, The Chemists’ Aerated & Mineral Waters Assn. Limited, Harrogate. The glass bottles include a Codd-neck bottle embossed for Joseph John Weston Brewer, South Shields; two torpedo-style bottles embossed for Lamb & Co Ltd, Newcastle and The Newcastle Breweries Limited; and a flat-sided flask embossed for H. Titman, Royal Hotel, Monkwearmouth. Further bottles in the group are embossed for P. V. Tinwell, South Shields, Ross & Co, Sunderland, and Geo. Lindsay. The collection is completed by aqua glass bottles embossed for Mackay Ltd and White, alongside two plain aqua glass bottles of cylindrical and flask form. The bottles feature various closures including internal marble and cork-style finishes, with embossed logos depicting an anchor, crown, and hand.
