A scientific lever arm quadrant balance scale manufactured by Griffin & Tatlock Ltd. The instrument is constructed with a heavy cast iron base featuring a black crinkle finish and an embossed mark reading MADE IN BRITAIN. A polished brass central pillar supports a black-finished metal lever arm and a curved quadrant scale. The scale features a white strip graduated from 0 to 250 in black markings. An oval brass and black enamel maker plaque is riveted to the base, inscribed LONDON GLASGOW, PRO. PATENT No 12702, EDINBURGH MANCHESTER, GRIFFIN & TATLOCK, Ltd., MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN, BIRMINGHAM: Standley Belcher & Mason Ltd. The instrument is complete with its original counterweight and a complex wire-form pan assembly supporting a dark metal sample plate. The base is fitted with a single brass levelling screw.
