A United Kingdom 1990 silver proof five pound crown, issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Struck in sterling silver, the coin features an obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, inscribed ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F·D· and the denomination FIVE POUNDS. The reverse, designed by Leslie Durbin, depicts an interlaced cypher of the letter E surmounted by a crown and flanked by a rose and a thistle, with the circumscription QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER and the dual dates 1900 and 1990. The coin is housed in a protective plastic capsule and presented in a navy blue Royal Mint case. The inner lid of the case features a printed silver-coloured crest above the text ROYAL MINT.
