Lot 552: A large square Pål studio pottery footed dish 35x35cm

A square studio pottery dish of shallow form with a slightly recessed central well, raised on four small hand-applied feet fashioned from rolled tubes of clay. The centre is decorated with a hand-painted still life depicting a cluster of blue flowers with yellow centres in a blue-grey vase, set against a cream background. This central panel is framed by a broad border featuring a radiating pattern of stripes in varying tones of blue, yellow, and terracotta-pink. The edge of the rim is finished with a thin line of brown glaze. The underside of the dish features a hand-painted signature in blue pigment over a central green and yellow glaze wash. The signature is applied in a cursive script and reads Pål, comprising a capital P followed by a lowercase a with a small circle above it and a final l with a flourishing tail.
