Lot 555: A Clarice Cliff Bizarre Pansies pattern Coronet earthenware jug
An English earthenware jug of octagonal form, known as the Coronet shape, decorated in the Pansies pattern. The hand-painted decoration features large pansy blossoms in shades of red, yellow, and purple with green foliage set against a cream-coloured ground. The lower half of the body is decorated with a Delicia-style run glaze consisting of vertical drips in yellow, blue, and brown. The top rim is finished with a thin hand-painted blue band. The vessel is constructed with a flared spout and a simple loop handle. The underside of the base bears several printed marks in black. The pattern name Pansies is printed above England. The central mark reads Hand Painted above an underlined script signature Bizarre by Clarice Cliff, followed by Newport Pottery England. A separate vertical block stamp to the right reads Made in England.
