Lot 569: A Collection of Vintage Cigarette Card Albums Mid Century Autograph Album and Commemorative Coin Covers

A mixed collection of 20th century ephemera including four cigarette card albums an autograph album and two numismatic covers. The cigarette card albums include two softcover volumes issued by John Player and Sons titled Uniforms of the Territorial Army and Military Uniforms of the British Empire Overseas each with a printed price of Three Pence. A third album by W.D. and H.O. Wills titled Cigarette Picture-Card Album Speed bears a printed price of One Penny and contains illustrations of record breaking vehicles including the Bristolian Express G.W.R. a 494 c.c. B.M.W. motorcycle and the Coronation Scot Express L.M.S.R. The fourth album is a blue card Ogden s Photo Album containing portrait cards of First World War military leaders including General Kouropatkin General Brusiloff and Marshal Joffre.

The autograph album features a green faux crocodile skin binding and contains signatures and photographs of British variety and radio performers from the mid 1940s. Transcribed inscriptions include Happy days Manley and Austin accompanied by a promotional photo and Dont Be Fright its only me Your Radio acquaintance Sindani 1946 with a small photograph of the performer at a BBC microphone. Further signatures include Audrey Hewitt inscribed Hoop-la 1945 Sandy Powell Suzette Tarri Harold Berens inscribed Hook-ha 1945 Frank Randle and The Three Jacks inscribed 1945 with a group photo in naval uniform.

The two commemorative coin covers are titled The Centenary of Her Majesty the Queen Mother and were issued by Mercury PO Box 5 Watford. Each cover features a five pound coin a 1st class stamp postmarked H.M. THE QUEEN MOTHER CLARENCE HOUSE LONDON 6.1.00 and unique serial numbers TV25527 and TV25528.
