Lot 570: North Ormesby Gas Company Limited. Business Archive and Manuscript Ledger, 1866-1873.
An assortment of four archival volumes and folders containing a manuscript record of the North Ormesby Gas Company Limited. The primary volume is a folio-sized ledger with dark leather and cloth-covered boards, functioning as a repository for various business documents dating between 1866 and 1873. The archive includes printed bank cheques from the National Provincial Bank of England, Middlesbrough branch, bearing the signatures of company secretary Edward Tidman and various directors. Invoices from local merchants are present, including Wilkinson and Burnett of Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough; Joshua Byers and Son, Timber and Lead Merchants of Stockton-on-Tees; and Robert Chambers, Furnishing Ironmonger. Further documentation includes freight accounts from the North Eastern Railway Stockton and Darlington Section, message receipts from The Electric and International Telegraph Company, and official tax and rate receipts from the Ormesby Local Board of Health. Many items feature lilac one penny Inland Revenue stamps with contemporary cancellations.
