Lot 584: A Trio of Vintage British Portable Radios by Vidor and Roberts
This lot comprises three British portable radios including two suitcase-style valve models and one transistor model. The first is a Vidor suitcase radio with a plywood case covered in maroon textured Rexine. The lid is embossed with the logo Vidor and the cream-coloured plastic interior features a vertical slide dial marked vertically V I D O R. The control panel is printed with designations for volume, tuning, battery, and AC mains operation. The second is a Vidor suitcase valve radio finished in tan polka-dot patterned Rexine. It features a horizontal tuning dial under a clear plastic window printed in green with VIDOR and MADE IN ENGLAND. The scales are calibrated in metres for medium and long wave bands. The third radio is a Roberts R707 transistor model with a black Rexine-wrapped body, wooden end panels, and a silver-tone metal mesh front grille. The top-mounted control panel is marked ROBERTS R707 and carries a Royal Warrant reading BY APPOINTMENT TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN RADIO MANUFACTURERS ROBERTS RADIO CO LTD. It is equipped with push-button band selectors for VHF, SW, MW, and LW frequencies and includes a telescopic antenna and stitched black carry strap.
