Lot 646: A Pair of 19th Century Brown Salt-Glazed Stoneware Recumbent Lion Models

A pair of salt-glazed stoneware figurines depicting recumbent lions. Each lion is modelled in a resting pose with a textured mane and stylised facial features, mounted on an integral oval plinth base. The stoneware is finished in a mottled brown salt glaze with a characteristic orange peel texture. The undersides of the bases are hollow with two circular firing holes. An accompanying handwritten note on blue paper reads 19th CENTURY DERBYSHIRE BROWN SALT GLAZED STONEWARE MODEL RECUMBENT LION PAIR 26cm LONG, C1840. No manufacturer marks are visible on the figures.
