Lot 728: An English Copeland Spode's Italian pattern blue and white earthenware bowl

An English transfer-printed earthenware bowl decorated in the ‘Italian’ pattern. The interior and exterior surfaces are covered with underglaze blue decoration, featuring a central scene of classical Roman ruins within a pastoral landscape, including figures and cattle. This central motif is enclosed by a wide border of stylised floral and foliate motifs. The base bears an oval blue underglaze mark containing the characters ‘COPELAND’, ‘SPODE’S’, ‘ITALIAN’, and ‘ENGLAND’. There are small dashes between the lines of text and a single dot on the left and right interior of the oval.
