Lot 727: An Italian Polychrome and Gilded Relief-Moulded Earthenware Ewer

An Italian glazed earthenware ewer featuring a bulbous central body and a slender neck with a pinched pouring spout. The piece is fitted with a high-arched twisted scroll handle and stands on a waisted pedestal foot with a stepped circular base. The main body is ornamented with a central band of high-relief moulded figures in classical poses, including putti and partially draped figures, hand-painted in polychrome enamels. The neck and foot are decorated with moulded leaf patterns and floral swags. The rims, handle and moulded details are accented with gold gilding. The underside of the base is marked with a gold-painted ITALY and a red-painted 310.
