Lot 730: A Collection of UK Pre-Decimal Sixpence and Shilling Coins

A collection of UK pre-decimal coins in sixpence and shilling denominations. The collection comprises silver-coloured coins from the reigns of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II. The coins consist of 50 per cent silver for issues dated before 1947 and cupro-nickel for examples dated 1947 and later. The obverse of the George VI coins features a left-facing portrait inscribed GEORGIVS VI D G BR OMN REX or GEORGIVS VI D G BR OMN REX FIDEI DEF. The Elizabeth II coins feature a laureate bust facing right with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D. Sixpence reverse designs include the crowned GRI royal monogram and national floral emblems with the inscription SIX PENCE. Shilling reverse designs include English crests featuring a lion on a crown and Scottish crests featuring a crowned crest with a thistle, both inscribed ONE SHILLING. Visible dates in the group range from 1944 to 1967. All coins feature milled edges.
