Lot 734: A Collection of Vintage Collectables including an 8-Pint Bell's Whisky Bottle, Orient Line Circular Playing Cards, and British Pre-Decimal Coinage
A collection of vintage household and travel collectables. The lot includes a large clear glass promotional bottle for Bell’s Old Scotch Whisky with a capacity of 8 pints (4.54 litres). The printed paper label bears the text Arthur Bell & Sons Ltd, DISTILLERS PERTH SCOTLAND, ESTABLISHED 1825, EXTRA SPECIAL, and 70° PROOF. It is fitted with a white plastic screw cap.
Travel memorabilia comprises a black textured card case for the Orient Line with a printed label reading ORIENT LINE MAIL STEAMERS BETWEEN LONDON AND AUSTRALIA, calling at Gibraltar, Toulon, Naples, Egypt and Ceylon, and Managers: ANDERSON, GREEN & CO., LTD. The case contains two decks of circular playing cards. Included is a card folder for Cleveland titled HISTORIC CAMPAIGN MEDALS 1793-1945, illustrating sixteen British military medals.
The numismatic portion consists of a significant quantity of pre-decimal British circulating coinage. Silver-coloured denominations include sixpences and threepences, with examples from the reigns of George V (dated 1928), George VI, and Elizabeth II. Designs feature monarch profile portraits with Latin titles such as GEORGIVS V DEI GRA:BRITT:OMN:REX. Copper-bronze denominations include two worn Victoria Veiled Head pennies with the inscription VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F:D:. Also present is a silver-coloured South African coin. A large portion of the coinage is contained within the whisky bottle, supplemented by a separate sealed roll of copper-coloured coins.
