Lot 126: George Hutton Maritime Coastal Landscape Watercolor 88x67cm frame 63x45cm picture

A watercolor on paper maritime study depicting a beached sailing vessel and figures on a tidal flat under a misty, atmospheric sky. The work is executed in an impressionistic style with broad washes of grey, ochre, and muted browns. The composition features a large hull resting on the shore to the left and several small figures standing on the wet sand in the mid-ground, their reflections visible on the surface. To the right, a dark cliff face rises into the mist. In the lower-left corner, a signature in dark wash reads George Hutton (photo 2). The signature is partially obscured by dark staining. The artwork is housed in a heavily ornate, gilt-composition swept frame featuring scrolled foliate and floral motifs in need of some attention.
