Lot 134: Thomas Patterson, Two Women in a Rural Landscape, Watercolour 60x48 cm frame 35x48cm picture

A watercolour with gouache highlights on paper, depicting two women in traditional dress along a dirt path. One woman stands to the left holding a rectangular wicker basket, while the other rests on a wooden bench looking out across a landscape. The composition is executed in an atmospheric, Impressionistic style with a palette of ochres, blues, and earthy browns under a cloudy sky. A signature is located in the lower-left corner (photo 5) which is partially obscured by paint; it shows a capital T and P followed by less distinct characters. The verso of the piece (photo 2) features a handwritten inscription in black ink reading Watercolour by Thomas Patterson. The back of the frame bears a black printed stamp for MICHAEL WOOD-FRAMINGS (photos 6 and 7). The work is presented in a glazed wooden frame with a gilt inner slip and a cream mount.
