A collection of maritime historical documents and prints focusing on significant figures of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The central piece is a mounted portrait of Henry Taylor (1737-1822) executed as a print from a miniature. The heavy card mount features extensive hand-written biographical text in black ink on toned wove paper, detailing Taylor’s service with Captain Cook, his residence in North Shields, and his contributions to maritime safety including lighthouses and floating lights. The text includes a 1927 provenance note. The portrait itself bears a graphite signature below the image appearing to read J. H. F. Bacon.

The collection includes a lithographic portrait of His Royal Highness The Duke of Clarence, Lord High Admiral of England, printed for the subscribers of the Weekly Times. Also present is a printed key to the painting of the death of Lord Nelson, published 2nd March 1812 by Messrs Boydell & Comp.y, N.90 Cheapside, London, featuring twelve numbered head studies of figures including Captain Hardy, Dr. Beatty, and Lord Nelson. Completing the group is a printed key for the Great Picture of Lord Howe’s Victory, published 1st January 1795 at Orme’s Gallery, London, showing various naval officers and ship names.
