Lot 144: Jack Merriott Northumberland Coast British Railways Travel Poster

A mid-century British Railways travel poster, printed in colours, featuring a landscape of the Northumberland Coast. The artwork is by Jack Merriott and depicts a panoramic view with Bamburgh Castle and the surrounding village in the middle ground, viewed through a frame of tall pine trees. The scene is set under a dramatic sky with sunbeams breaking through clouds. The lower portion of the image contains text in the bottom left corner reading BAMBURGH AND THE FARNE ISLANDS. The artist signature JACK MERRIOTT is printed in the lower right of the composition.

The lower margin features the title NORTHUMBERLAND COAST in green block lettering, flanked by two British Railways gill logos. Centred below the title is the slogan SEE ENGLAND BY RAIL. Small-type publisher details at the bottom left edge read PUBLISHED BY THE RAILWAY EXECUTIVE (NORTH EASTERN REGION) (AR 1113). At the bottom right edge, a printer mark identifies THE HAYCOCK PRESS LTD. LONDON. The poster is housed in a simple stained wooden frame behind glazing.
