Lot 174: Faux-Wood Carved Figural Sculpture of a Hooded Character
A carved figural sculpture representing a hooded figure, possibly a monk or traveler. The piece is constructed from a composite material, likely resin, which has been worked and finished to simulate aged boxwood or bone. The figure is depicted in a dynamic, forward-leaning posture with the head tilted sharply to the side and arms held behind the back. The surface features deep vertical striations to imitate timber grain and numerous small, circular indentations to replicate insect damage or worming. The figure is mounted onto a separate, stepped rectangular base finished in black. No maker’s marks, signatures, or inscriptions are visible on the figure or the plinth.
