Lot 213: A Continental Jewelled Porcelain Egg Box on Gilt Metal Stand

A Continental porcelain egg-form trinket box featuring a hinged gilt metal mount and an ornate three-legged cast metal base. The exterior is decorated in a pastoral Fetes Galantes style, with eight rectangular panels depicting women in rustic dress carrying baskets of flowers or fruit. These vignettes are finished with enamel highlights and are set within elaborate gilt foliate and geometric borders against a dark ground. The borders are further embellished with raised white and green enamel jewels. The interior of both the lid and the base is finished with a white glaze and decorated with a single hand-painted polychrome floral sprig to the centre. On the underside of the porcelain base, there is a single hand-painted cursive uppercase L in dark ink.
