Lot 215: Two Turned and Carved Wooden Items Including Spalted Wood Bowl and Mask

This lot comprises two hand-crafted wooden objects. The first is a turned bowl crafted from spalted beech, featuring a pale, fine-grained surface marked by irregular black fungal spalting lines. The form is a squat, globular bowl with a smooth, polished interior and exterior. The rim incorporates a section of undressed bark, creating a live-edge feature. The second item is a deeply carved hardwood head or mask, finished with a dark mahogany-toned stain and a high-gloss polish. The carving depicts a character with avian features, including a prominent curved beak, heavy furrowed brows, and stylised hair or feathers. The eyes are inset with white porcelain or glass with dark pupils. The reverse is hollowed out, showing coarse chisel marks from the hand-carving process. The underside of the bowl is plain and shows faint concentric turning marks with no readable signatures or maker marks.
