Lot 217: A Japanese patinated bronze figure of Daruma.

A cast bronze figure of Daruma, depicted as a brush washer or incense burner. The figure is shown emerging from a large, open sack which forms the vessel, with his head tilted upwards and mouth open in a yawn. The face is cast with expressive features including squinted eyes and heavy facial folds. The body is draped in voluminous robes that wrap around the neck and transition into the textured exterior of the sack. The metal has a dark brown patinated finish with a lustrous surface. The interior of the vessel is left in a rough, dark, oxidized state. The underside has been filed flat, revealing the yellowish copper alloy beneath the surface patina. A circular recessed mark is present on the base, though it contains no discernible characters or symbols.
