Lot 221: A cast metal figure of Buddha, Japan, 20th century or later 20cm tall

A cast metal alloy figure of Amitabha Buddha depicted in a seated meditative posture. The figure is shown with traditional iconographic features including the ushnisha cranial protuberance, tightly curled hair, and elongated earlobes. He wears a monastic kasaya robe draped over both shoulders, leaving a section of the chest exposed. The hands are held in the dhyana mudra of meditation, resting in the lap with thumbs touching. The figure is seated in the padmasana lotus position on an integral base formed by the draped folds of the lower robe. The reverse shows a vertical casting seam running from the neck to the base. The underside is fitted with a green felt protective layer. The dark brown surface finish exhibits a patinated appearance with rubbing to the raised edges of the casting.
