Lot 220: A Pair of Earthenware Kneeling Archer Figures in the Qin Style 33cm tall
A pair of buff earthenware figures modelled as kneeling archers, based on the soldiers of the Terracotta Army. Each figure is depicted in a kneeling posture on an integral rectangular plinth, wearing an armoured tunic with detailed square plates and rivets. The hair is gathered into a distinctive topknot shifted to the right side of the head. The surfaces are unglazed with a textured slip-coated finish, accented by traces of reddish pigment to the heads and dark surface deposits in the recesses of the garments to simulate burial encrustation. Both figures are hollow-cast, featuring two small square or rectangular vent holes on the underside of each base. No maker names or country-of-origin marks are visible.
