Lot 265: A Victorian clear glass apothecary shop jar for cough lozenges with a gilded glass lid

A clear glass apothecary shop jar of cylindrical form, designed for pharmacy counter display. The body is decorated with a central brown strap label featuring black serif lettering reading ‘COUGH : LOZ :’. The label surface shows a heavily crackled finish with fine-line crazing throughout. The jar is fitted with its original matching glass lid of domed form, which is finished with an exterior gold-toned gilding. The base of the jar has a circular mark from the manufacturing process. No maker’s name or mark is readable on the glass or the label.
